“You need not reveal your identity”
Project LifeSaver "To Bring Your Loved Ones Home"
The Caswell County Sheriff's Office and the Womens Pilot Club in Danville, Virginia worked together to bring Project LifeSaver to Caswell County. With the assistance from the Pilot Club we were able to purchase the necessary equipment to help aid our department in locating certain missing individuals such as autistic individuals, persons with alzheimers disease or other related medical disorders. Two officers recently went through 18 hours of special training, in the operation of the equipment and also a instructors course so that they may teach other officers in this program. Lieutenant Scott Halbrook is in charge of Project LifeSaver, Corporal Sam Hamlett and his partner Moe will be assisting. This is a two part program, we have received the necessary equipment and training to aid our department in tracking and searching for missing loved ones. Now, we need to get these individuals their braclets that they will wear so we can track them. Needless to say this equipment is not free, so we have been giving presentations at Civic Organizations throughout Caswell County to make people aware of the problem, to tell them what we are doing to help, and then telling them what they can do as a group to help the citizens of Caswell County. Not all families can afford to pay for the bracelets to help bring their loved ones home. So, if you or your organization would like to have a presentation or if you would like to make a donation, please contact Lt. Scott Halbrook at the Caswell County Sheriffs Office 694-9311.
Sheriff's Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.)
In an effort to enhance the overall effectiveness of law enforcement, the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office has established the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team. The purpose of this team is to handle unusual activities and problems including but not limited to hostage incidents, armed barricaded persons, sniper incidents, aggravated suicide attempts, high risk building searches, high risk search and/or arrest warrant service, crowd control, surveillance, security and other potentially life threatening occurrences which exceed routine responsibilities of on duty patrol officers.
The Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team’s operation concept is containment and apprehension. This involves locating and isolating suspects, evacuating the area threatened and utilizing special tactics to effect an arrest in a manner that affords minimum exposure to danger to officer’s and citizens who may be directly or indirectly involved.
D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)
D.A.R.E. is a cooperative program that is conducted by the school system, law enforcement and parents. It’s curriculum consists of elementary students K-5, middle school students 7th grade and high school students in the 10th grade and DARE parent training. Elementary school students in the 5th grade have a 10 lesson program that consists of teaching students the harmful effects of tobacco, alcohol and marijuana. They are also taught how to resist violence and peer pressure and taught different ways to say “NO” to drugs. It explores other alternatives that students can participate in other than doing drugs such as sports and other after school activities. At the end of the curriculum each student writes an essay, and winners are chosen. During the Culmination Program each winner is presented with a special prize. Each participant receives a DARE t-shirt and a certificate. There is always a special guest speaker that is drug free. Middle school students in the 7th grade have a 10 week continuous program that re-enforces what they were taught in elementary school. The curriculum focuses more on violence and violent situations. It teaches students on ways to avoid violence and how to get out of violent situations. D.A.R.E. Parent Program Is open to any parent of a past or present D.A.R.E. students.
