Technology Enhancement

In the last four years many new changes have been made to the departments technology. Through grants and other funding the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office has been able to update most of our technology at no cost to the citizens of Caswell County.

AFIS/Live Scan Fingerprint Machine

The Cross Match I.D. 1000 Live Scan system is a state-of-the-art digital fingerprint capture device that produces forensic-quality images eliminating the need for more inefficient and time consuming ink and paper methods. This device then transmits the high-quality fingerprints to a central location and/or interfaces with an Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) for identification processing and verification. The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office received a grant funded through the N.C. Governor’s Crime Commission for the fiscal year 2003-2004. The total award for this equipment was $46,621.00.

Sheriff's Pak Computer System

The Sheriffs-Pak is a Microsoft SQL Server based system that allows us to track, print, search and summarize many of the daily reports and activities including incident reports, arrest reports, warrants, civil papers, gun permits, sex offenders, and much more.

Locator Computer System

When a child is reported missing, time is one of law enforcement’s greatest enemies. Every hour a child is missing, the likelihood of a safe recovery decreases. In order to ensure a level of preparedness for child abduction cases, the Caswell County Sheriff’s Office implemented the LOCATOR, the Lost Child Alert Technology Resource. This system, including software and computer hardware, allows critical missing child data to be distributed on a local, state and national basis.

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office obtained and is pleased to be working with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). Use of the LOCATOR system, comprised of a Dell Pentium IV computer, HP deskjet 940 C Printer, high resolution scanner, and customized software, is not limited to missing children cases. It includes templates for more than 100 different types of posters such as missing adults, wanted persons and crime alerts.

Mobile Data Terminals

The Caswell County Sheriff’s Office received grant funding through the N.C. Governor’s Crime Commission for the fiscal year 2003-2004. The project, titled, “Technology Enhancement Initiative,” is aimed at implementing Mobile Data Terminals (MDT’s) to be used within the Patrol Division. This equipment promotes efficiency, better communication, and increases officer safety. The total award for this equipment was $23,694.00
